Most people just look at their garage as a place to store their cars at night. And while this is perfectly fine for many, there are others that need that extra space in the garage because they are limited with the amount of room they have inside the house. As a way to better make do with the space that you have, here are three ways to turn your garage into more than just a place to park your vehicles.
Create Storage
For all of those families that feel they are outgrowing their current home because of a lack of storage, you may not need a larger home at all. You might just need to create storage in your garage instead. There are a couple of ways that this can be done.
You can find industrial shelving to put on the perimeter of the inside of your garage so you have plenty of room to store things that you don’t exactly need in the house. Plus, if you keep the shelving along the sides, you can still park your cars in the garage just fine.
If you want to take it even a step further, you can store crates and such in the rafters of the garage by laying planks of wood down and creating a sort of attic in there. Make certain that everything is sturdy so there is no chance of an accident later on from the rafters collapsing.
Turn Your Garage into an Addition of the House
If you don’t mind parking your vehicles in the driveway, you can quickly turn your garage into another room of the house. In fact, if the garage is already insulated, this could be accomplished in just one weekend. It would be simple to lay down flooring over top of cement and you can quickly put up drywall if need be. With help from a friend or two, this project can be accomplished in no time.
The Garage Gym
You may have always wanted to have a fitness room in your house but never had the extra bedroom to do so. With a little designing, you can have a garage gym and still park a car or two in it when it is not being used. With some free weights, dumbbells, a bench, and some cardio equipment, you can save money by eliminating your monthly membership to the local fitness centre and just get your workout completed in your new garage gym.
