We know! Messy house makes your inner self say, “I don’t feel so good”. That’s why we are going to give you decluttering tips that actually work. Let’s start!
1. Use 80/20 Rule
The 80/20 rule is a general rule used in many aspects of life. This rule is even adopted by big organizations to lower the risk factors of their projects. It states that 20 percent of our owned things are used 80 percent of the time which makes sense if you think about it. In terms of clothing, we only wear 20 percent of the clothes 80 percent of the time, so you need to clear those clothing that you feel aren’t useful to you.
2. Storage Baskets
Storage baskets and tubs are helpful in organizing and decluttering your home. Use them to store your usual, everyday clutter. There are a lot of different types of storage tubs like weaved basket like or transparent or even colorful ones to match the look in your room.
3. The Oprah Winfrey Closet Experiment
This experiment is solely for noticing which clothes you have worn the most and need to get rid of the others.
This technique will clear up your closet beyond imagination. It involves all your clothes to be hanged in reverse and after wearing those clothes, return them into the closet only hanging them the right way. After two to three months, you will have a visual representation of what clothes you need to remove from your closet. Thanks Oprah!
4. Organize Behind Closed Doors
One thing that is hidden in plain sight is the back side of the door or cabinets. You can organize the clutter by putting up containers hung by hooks behind there. Notebooks and other peripheral supplies or gloves, socks and hats can be put into a small container behind a craft room door. Utilize insides of cabinets as well by putting in dishwashing tools or other irrelevant stuff that makes your kitchen look messy.
5. Remove the Items You Don’t Need But Want
When decluttering houses, you may come across something that was with you for a long time but now you don’t need it. These are mostly things which you buy randomly without thinking of their long-term use and once your purpose is complete, you forget them until this moment. In this situation, ask yourself if you really need that thing in the future. If not, get rid of it immediately.
6. Cable Management
Messy cables coming from behind your TV in your living room is an unpleasant sight.
You can organize your cables by binding them with tape and using a paint matching pipe to make all your wires go through it. For extra cables, use tape to bind them and either label them or color code them and put them in your drawer. This way you won’t lose a cable and find it when you need it the most.
7. Using a Junk Removal Service
We know you love that old sofa which you don’t even use – but that sofa is causing mess. Same is the case with all the unnecessary junk in your house that have no use. If you are serious about decluttering, hire a junk removal service and have them dispose of everything in your house that you don’t need. After all this, you’ll feel refreshed. And once you see more space in your house, you’ll mind will instantly start processing ideas to make it look charming.
